 Equally clear and express is that ancient promise: `The Lord thy God will circumcise thy 
heart, and the heart of thy seed, to love the Lord thy God with all thy heart and with all thy 
soul.' (Deut.30:6.)
 あの古い約束にも同様に明確に表現されている。
「あなたがたの神である主はあなたがたの心とあなたがたの子孫の心に割礼をほどこし、あな
たがたの神である主をあなたがたのすべての心と魂を用いて愛させる。」（申命記30：6）

 "Q. But does any assertion answerable to this occur in the New Testament?
質問。しかし、新約聖書に起因する回答になる引用がなにかあるだろうか？

"A.　There does, and that laid down in the plainest terms.
回答。　ある。それは最も平易なことばで述べられている。

So 1 John 3:8: `For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the 
works of the devil;' the works of the devil, without any limitation or restriction; but all sin is 
the work of the devil.
たとえばヨハネの手紙第一３章８節、「神の子が現われたのは、悪魔のしわざを打ちこわすた
めです。」悪魔のしわざということばには何の制限も限定もないから、すべての罪が悪魔のしわ
ざである。

Parallel to which is the assertion of St. Paul: `Christ loved the Church, and gave himself for 
it, that he might present it to himself a glorious Church, not having spot or wrinkle, or any 
such thing, but that it might be holy and without blemish' (Eph.5:25-27.)
 これと並んで聖パウロの「キリストは教会を愛して彼自身を教会のためにお与えになった。そ
れは彼ご自身のために、しみやしわ、あるいはそういった類の何かの汚点がない、聖なる栄光
の教会を出現させるためである。」（ｴﾍﾟｿ5:25-27)

"And to the same effect is his assertion in the eighth of the Romans, verses 3, 4: `God sent 
his Son, that the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the 
flesh, but after the spirit.' [Rom.8:3, 4] 
彼がローマ人への手紙８章３、４節にに引用している「肉に従って歩まず聖霊に従って歩む私
たちの内に律法の義が満足されるために、神は御子を遣わされた。」(ﾛｰﾏ8:3、4)　にも同じ効
果がある。

"Q. Does the New Testament afford any farther ground for expecting to be saved from all 
sin?
質問。新約聖書はすべての罪から救われたものとなることを期待すべきであるための何か更
なる基礎を提供しているか？

"A.Undoubtedly it does; both in those prayers and commands, which are equivalent to the 
strongest assertions.
回答。疑いも無くそうである。
祈りと命令の両方に含まれて、最も強力な引例に相当している。

"Q. What prayers do you mean?
質問。あなたが言っているのはどの祈りであるか？

"A.Prayers for entire sanctification; which, were there no such thing, would be mere 
mockery of God.
回答。全き潔めに関する祈りであって、もしそれが存在しなければ神を嘲ったことになる。

Such in particular are, (1.) `Deliver us from evil.' 
特にそれがあるのは、（1）「私たちを悪から救い出してください。」

 Now, when this is done, when we are delivered from all evil, there can be　no sin remaining.

もし、これが成就した時には、私たちは全ての悪から救われており、罪が残っている ことはあ
り得ない。

(2.) `Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also who shall believe on me through their 
word; that they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me and I in thee, that they also may 
be one in us; I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one.' (John 17:20-
23.) 
（2）「私は彼らのためにだけでなく、かれらのことばによってわたしを信じるすべての人々のた
めに祈ります。かれら全部がひとつとなることを。また父よ、あなたがわたしのうちにおり、わた
しがあなたのうちにおるのと同様に、彼らがわたしたちにおる一人となるように。わたしが彼ら
のうちにおり、あなたがたわたしのうちにいて、彼らがひとつに完全なものとされるように。」（ﾖﾊ
ﾈ17：20-23）

(3.) `I bow my knees unto the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, that he would grant 
you, that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend, with all saints, 
what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height, and to know the love of Christ, which 
passeth knowledge; that ye may be filled with all the fulness of God.' (Eph.3:14, &c.) 
（3）「私は神、私たちの主イエス・キリストの父にひざをかがめて拝し、キリストがあなたにこうい
うものを下さるように祈ります。
それはあなたがたが愛に根ざし愛を基礎として、すべての聖徒たちと共に、その広さ、長さ、深
さ、高さを理解できるように。
そして知識の通り道であるキリストの愛を知り、神に満ちているすべてのものをもって満たされ
ますように。」（ｴﾍﾟｿ3：14以下） 

(4.) `The very God of peace sanctify you wholly.
And I pray God, your whole spirit, soul, and body, may be preserved blameless unto the 
coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.' (1 Thess.5:23.) 
（4）「事実平和の神はあなた方を完全に潔めます。そして私は神に祈ります。あなた方の霊、
魂、肉体が全くされ、私たちの主イエス･キリストが来られるときまで責められるところなく保た
れますように。」(ﾃｻﾛﾆｹⅠ5:23)
