| There is something very peculiar in the experience of the greater part of them. | 彼らのうちの大部分の人々の経験には、非常に注目すべきものがある。 |
| One would expect that a believer should first be filled with love, and thereby emptied of sin; whereas these were emptied of sin first, and then filled with love. | 人は、はじめに愛に満たされ、それによって罪の性質が除かれると期待するであろうが、彼らはまず罪の性質が除かれ、それから愛に満たされたのである。 |

| If they are reproved or contradicted, though mildly, they do not take it well; they behave with more distance and reserve than they did before. | もしかれらが叱られたり反対されたりすると、穏やかにであっても、彼らはそれをうまく用いることができない。彼らはさらに距離をおき、前にしていたとおりのことを続けるのである。 |
| If they are reproved or contradicted harshly, they answer it with harshness; with a loud voice, or with an angry tone, or in a sharp and surly manner. | もし彼らが厳しく非難されたり反対されたりしたなら、彼らは大声でとか怒り含んでまたは鋭くあるいはぶっきらぼうにとげとげしく答える。 |
| They speak sharply or roughly, when they reprove others; and behave roughly to their inferiors. | 彼らは他の人々に対して鋭くあるいは荒々しく語る。目下の人々に荒々しく振舞う。 |
| "Some are wanting in goodness. | ある人々は徳に欠けている。 |
| They are not kind, mild, sweet, amiable, soft, and loving at all times, in their spirit, in their words, in their look and air, in the whole tenor of their behaviour; and that to all, high and low, rich and poor, without respect of persons; particularly to them that are out of the way, to opposers, and to those of their own household. | 身分の高い人に対しても低い人に対しても、富む人に対しても貧しい人に対しても、殊に彼の邪魔にならない人々や、彼の家族に対してその人を尊敬することがなく、彼らは魂のうちに、ことばに、かれらの表情や雰囲気に、彼らのすべての生活や振る舞いに、いつも親切、温和、優しさ、友好さ、穏やかさ、愛を持っていない。 |
